HEADS OF REGIONAL penal institutions will spend the next three days evaluating how they do things and looking at new ways of doing things.

President of the Association of Caribbean Heads of Correction and Prison Services, Lieutenant Colonel John Nurse of Barbados, said those items will be on the agenda at the 10th conference of the association, which go under way at Hilton Barbados this morning.

Among the topics to be discussed will be Alternatives to Incarceration, Integration of the Criminal Justice System, Health Care Issues in Prisons and Recidivism & Integration. The last appears to be a problem across territories with recidivism occurring at a rate of between 25 to 65 per cent. (YB)
