RECENT INCIDENTS of automatic teller machine (ATM) thefts in Barbados have created the need for the region to have mechanisms that guarantee a swift response.
Noting that the “new threats” had a potential to wreak havoc on societies, Prime Minister Freundel Stuart said they must be countered in order to maintain peace, security and stability in the region.
Speaking at the opening of the new Fusion Centre at the Regional Security Services’ (RSS) base at Paragon, Christ Church, yesterday evening, Stuart said governments were fully aware of the threats posed and so care must be taken they did not lead to the infiltration of “alien ideologies inimical to our very existence here in the Caribbean”.
