THE TOWN AND Country Planning Department served an enforcement notice on another property pertaining to businessman Mark Maloney.

The small hut at Lears Roundabout was demolished earlier today as a result of a notice first served in 2011, said to have been served shortly after it was built.

A senior town planner, who requested anonymity, said the case had been appealed but the enforcement was upheld.

He said they only enforced it today as there were many such properties on their list and they had limited resources.

This demolition is coming at a time when the Town and Country Planning Department is involved in a court case against Maloney concerning Rock Hard Cement.

However, the planner said they did not deal with personalities but with land development and thus this case had nothing to do with the other one.

When contacted, an upset Maloney said he considered the action illegal and he would deal with the matter in the appropriate manner.

He lamented that the department would enforce a notice on a “beautiful” roundabout he constructed in response to the accidents which were occurring in the area when it was a junction.

He added it was clear it was a targeted effort against him. (CA)
