Close call between Storm, Infrared

Share post:

A BRILLIANT ride by champion jockey Rickey Walcott astride the Stephne Goddard’s owned and Anderson Ward trained Snow Storm upset the raging hot favourite Donicodidit and Infrared  to take yesterday’s feature race, the St Ann’s Garrison Handicap over 1 800 metres at the Garrison Savannah yesterday.

Racing on a good track after all the showers earlier in the week, Infrared predictably went straight to the lead, leaving the gates quickly followed by Snow Storm, with the pair of Little Man Arran and Donicodidit trailing six or seven lengths back.

After trotting 26 flat for the first quarter, Walcott asked his grey roan filly Snow Storm to pick up the runners, increasing the fractions to a 49.2 half-mile. The pair maintained a steady gallop as Infrared and apprentice Rasheed Hughes took up a stalking position.
