Smashing wins for top players

TOP PLAYERS Sheldene Walrond and Rachel Smith scored easy victories when the Veta Batson Touch Of Class Road Tennis Tournament continued on Friday night at the Deighton “Pa” Roach Centre in Bush Hall.

Smith stopped an aggressive Lana Butler 21-8, 21-14 in the ‘A’ class nightcap. Earlier Walrond beat Carlyn “The Model” Haynes 21-10, 21-10, and Judy Prescod came from a game down to defeat Jalesa Holder-Vaughn 13-21, 21-13, 21-11.

One of the most competitive matches was the clash between veteran Patricia Rouse and former national table tennis champion Julia Morris-Young. 

After dropping the first game Rouse showed great skill storming back to sow her opponent before losing the contest 12-21, 21-9, 11-21. (KB)
