THE BARBADOS UNION OF TEACHERS is honouring stalwarts of the local teaching profession by placing their names on roads in the Union’s Hothersal Development project.

This morning, retired teachers Edwena Armstrong and Carl Springer cut ribbons to symbolically open Edwena Armstrong Drive and Carl Springer Drive respectively.

The ceremony was attended by Minister of Housing Denis Kellman and Minister of Transport and Works Michael Lashley.

In a brief address, Kellman said the 12.5-acre development, reserved exclusively for teachers, would help to reduce dependency on an “already over-burdened government housing system”.

Fifty-six houses will be built in the phased project that will also have supporting facilities such as a day care centre. (GC)
