TWO HISTORIC BUILDINGS associated with policing in Barbados are being refurbished in keeping with the standards of Barbados’ designation as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
This is the word from the contractors working on the Black Rock Police Station and the male barracks of Central Police Station.
They were speaking as Attorney General Adriel Brathwaite, members of his Ministry of Home Affairs and high-ranking lawmen toured those sites as well as those of new judicial complexes at Cane Garden, St Thomas, and Hastings, Christ Church, yesterday.
Marlon Gittens, project engineer with DLN Consultants, the company working on the refurbishment of the barracks which back on to Tudor Street, explained they were retrofitting and upgrading the existing three-storey 1924/5 coral stone building, built on what was once called Hall’s Bottom Tenantry and Centipede Alley. The ground floor was being renovated while the internal space was being reworked. (HLE)
