BARBADOS IS SEEING positive results from the Drug Treatment Court introduced last year.
All 13 convicted young drug offenders who went through the court-managed rehabilitation programme in its first year of operation successfully completed the programme and are on their way to regaining their place as productive citizens.
And as the second cohort of 20 young drug offenders appeared before Drug Treatment Court presiding magistrate Graveney Bannister to begin rehabilitative treatment yesterday, Organisation of United States (OAS) representative in Barbados, Francis McBarnette, told the DAILY NATION he was encouraged by the successful outcome of the first cohort.
The OAS was responsible for bringing the concept of the Drug Treatment Court to Barbados and McBarnette said the rehabilitative approach as an alternative to incarceration was working. (GC)
