St Matthew’s protest called off

THE PLANNED PICKET by parents of students of St Matthew’s Primary School for Tuesday was called off after only four parents turned up.

Sherita Parris, who had been out front calling for the removal of principal Barbara-Anne Brome-Bailey, said parents were afraid to come out in public for fear of their children being victimised.

She said she eventually made up her mind to do what she had to do to protect the interests of her child, even if she was the only one standing guard.

Permission was given by the police to stage the march at 11 a.m. but the hoped-for participation of at least 60 parents and those who had signed the petition, were dashed.

Parris said no further protests were planned at this time.

The parents called for the principal, who was at the school from January, to be removed.

The consensus was that since her arrival, there had been an environment of discomfort for the children. (LK)
