UNITED STATES’ junior national champion Kyle Kirkland gave a clinical display of driving when he competed in the EasyKart 125 class of the Barbados Karting Association’s SDRR MotorSport/Chefette Championships last Sunday.

Kirkland dictated his own pace as he started at the back and carved his way to the front of the group with relative ease on the Western Kart track at the Bushy Park Racing Circuit.

Kirkland had qualified almost a second faster than anyone in his class and he went on to sweep the group with three wins from three races leaving Joshua Maloney second with 60 points. Aiden Fortier was third.

In the EasyKart 60cc class, there was an impressive battle between Alex Powell and Charlie Kerridge in the second race.

These two were nose to tail for most of the race until they touched going downhill and both spun. Kyffin Simpson went on to win that race but it was Kerridge who was the day’s winner with 66 points. Powell (60) was second and Simpson (59) third in the ten-strong class.

Christian Hinds was also having things his own way as he swept the X30 Class. Driving repeatedly at the front, Hinds was often unchallenged while enjoying the lead.

Ricky Kirton was second, narrowly ahead of a fast finishing Clavin Bartlett.

Zane Maloney, who has been competing in the United States, dominated the EasyKart 100 class winning all of his races. Sebastian Thompson was second, 11 points ahead of Kayleigh Catwell.

Mechanical issues forced Nicholas Gill to retire early from some races but he managed to finished third in the EasyKart 125 Master class. This class was won by Stuart Garcia while Christopher McFarlane was second. (PR/EZS)
