NATIONAL player Akeem Rudder made hockey history in Argentina last weekend.

Rudder became the first Barbadian to be named the Most Valuable Player in the Argentine Northeast Regional Club Championships, which climaxed at the Estadio Mundialista Luciana Aymar Stadium in Rosario on Sunday.

Rudder, 22, a power forward for the Barbados senior team and local club Eastern Stars, left the island in March this year, along with five other national senior players, to train with and compete for local clubs in Argentina.

The trip was part of a development programme for Barbados’ senior teams, orchestrated by national coach Dominic Hill.

Rudder and Che Roach were assigned to the Uni Rosario club, which competes in the top-level men’s “A” category in Argentina’s regional club tournaments. (PR/EZS)
