Back in court today

THE MAN CHARGED in connection with the hit-and-run of a schoolgirl was remanded overnight.

Derrick Sherland Nowell, 43, of Battaleys, St Peter, will reappear in the Holetown Magistrates’ Court this morning on seven charges in relation to the accident along the Speightstown By-Pass Road, St Peter, in which Zawadi Gilkes, 13, was struck.

On Wednesday Gilkes was left bruised and bloodied at the scene.

Nowell was charged with failing to stop at an accident; driving without due care and reasonable consideration; having no tax, no insurance, no valid driver’s licence; failing to register a vehicle; and fraudulent use of number plates. (AC)
