They came for violence; terror of them goes before them. They gather captives like sand. At kings they scoff and rules they make. They laugh at every fortress for they heap up earth and take it and go on. Guilty men, whose own might is their god. – Habakkuk 1: 9-11
IT WAS REPORTED in the Monday edition of the DAILY NATION that Acting Commissioner of Police Tyrone Griffith said that members of the Royal Barbados Police Force planned to walk through Brittons Hill, St Michael, this week.
The announcement was made against the backdrop of three shootings in quick succession of three young men linked to the district.
Young men from the area have since called for a ceasefire among their peers and were very quick to blame the politicians, the church, their absent fathers, other gangs and the poor economy, instead of accepting responsibility for their own actions.
People are very good at putting the blame on others rather than realising that the course of our lives will be determined by the choices we make. Our youth lack purpose. Stop blaming the church and politicians.
Why are politicians being blamed? Since when are they to provide jobs? Some of our young people (men) are out of school without any qualifications and want desk jobs. There are too many young men out there without any skills. This has nothing to do with the politicians.
What the young people need to do is to change their way of thinking in order for a change to come about and feed the police with vital information as to the sources of the guns and the people in possession of them.
Acting Commissioner, you must not give up. Keep on doing what you are doing in order to make Barbados a safe place for all of us to live in.
