TIGHTER SECURITY MEASURES have been put in place at the District “A” Magistrates’ court following Thursday’s incident in which an armed man was nabbed trying to enter the Bridgetown complex.
On entering the compound’s main entrance, which remained half closed yesterday, people were subjected to searches by four guards. They used scanners on each individual and manually searched their belongings.
People appeared quite compliant as they made their way through the iron gates towards a guard hut.
On Thursday morning a man armed with a gun and two full clips entered the court gate before being stopped by the sole guard on duty. The man, identified as Shaquille Greenidge, 21, of Kensington Lodge, St Michael, was refused entry to the courtyard because of his inappropriate dress.
After police intervened during a struggle which ensued between the man and the guard, the weapon and ammunition were discovered. No charges have been filed as yet.
The incident prompted senior court staff and other officials to meet to discuss the long-standing issue of security in the court.
On Thursday, Registrar Barbara Cooke-Alleyne said they were in the process of increasing security at the Bridgetown court. (TKS)
