TRADE UNIONIST AND STATISTICIAN Asokore Beckles has thrown his hat into the political ring.

In an interview with the DAILY NATION, he confirmed he would be seeking to get the nod from the Barbados Labour Party’s (BLP) members in the St Michael South riding come Sunday.

Beckles will be going up against Kirk Humphrey and Nathaniel Boyce in a bid to get the party’s favour when the meeting comes off at Graydon Sealy Secondary School. If he is successful, his opponent in the next general elections will be Prime Minister Freundel Stuart.

Speculation had been rife that the 31-year-old general treasurer of the National Union of Public Workers (NUPW) would be seeking to run in the urban seat held by Stuart for two consecutive terms. However, he did not confirm it earlier as he said there were some things he had to do first before making his decision. (GBM)
