IF ATTORNEY GENERAL and Minister of Home Affairs Adriel Brathwaite has his way, there will hardly be a place in Barbados a criminal could turn without being seen by closed-circuit television.
And he already has the support of Acting Commissioner of Police Tyrone Griffith, Minister of Tourism Richard Sealy and other key tourism stakeholders, who are now involved in a $5 million project to extend electronic coverage to Warrens and the West Coast.
The island’s two major telecommunications service providers, Digicel and Flow, have declared that with their 100 per cent coverage of the island with fibre optic cable, keeping an eye on any commercial centre, tourist attraction or social hotspot would be a cinch.
Without going into details so as not to compromise security, Griffith confirmed there was already comprehensive coverage of Bridgetown and the cameras had proven to be an effective tool in solving crime. (RRM)
