THE FAMILY of a policeman shot fatally in mysterious circumstances almost 12 years ago wants the authorities to reopen the investigation into his death.

Constable Dexter Yarde, who was 31 years old, was shot in the head on August 22, 2004, in the line of duty.

Marion Yarde and four of her five remaining children – Geraldine, Junior, Yvette,  and Ronald – said they were shocked to discover last Wednesday that Yarde’s police partner, Constable Richard Garrett, had brought a defamation lawsuit against the state.

Police had first determined after the shooting that Yarde had been killed by friendly fire while they were responding to a burglary in St James.
