CUT TIES WITH BRITAIN and move towards republican status.
Vice Chancellor of the University of the West Indies, Sir Hilary Beckles, is giving that strong advice to all Caribbean states, including Barbados, in the wake of Britain’s vote to leave the European Union, a process referred to as Brexit.
“We need to set up Caribbean indigenous institutions and we must tell the Queen thank you very much and goodbye,” he insisted, arguing that this latest development clearly indicated that CARICOM countries needed to end all forms of colonialism.
“We have to go to republican status right across the Caribbean. We have to end colonialism. How much longer are we going to linger? They push us out, they bring you back, they push you out, they bring you back and you are holding on. It is creating psychological dependency. Free the Caribbean people!” he urged. (WILLCOMM)
