ONE IN FIVE CHILDREN in Barbados suffers from asthma.
And like those adults who live with the bronchial condition, said a noted physician, the prevalence can be attributed to a more modern lifestyle.
Professor Timothy Roach was speaking to the DAILY NATION after attending the recent launch, by GlaxoSmithKline, of new medication for the treatment of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease.
“We know what the prevalence of asthma is in Barbados. It is about 20 per cent. Asthma in children is one in five. Children have a history of asthma,” he said.
Roach noted that surveys on asthma tended to focus more on children because “asthma is more prevalent in children”. (HLE)
