10-Minute Manager: Iesha Edwards

is managing director of Expressive Events

Are you where you’ve always wanted to be?

No. However, my ultimate goal in life is to be successful. Though my chosen career path has taken a detour, I anticipate that my ambition would continue to be my driving force to achieving  a successful career.

What is your biggest professional challenge?

Starting a business is never easy, therefore I would have to say taking the initial risk of investing in a start-up company and accessing capital has been my greatest professional  challenge thus far.

What is your biggest life challenge?

Taking a leap of faith and stepping off the ledge into the unknown world of entrepreneurship for me was recently  my biggest life challenge in relation to letting go of the fear of failing. However, having a strong support system from other entrepreneurs, friends and family gave me the confidence  to take that step.

When you look to the future, what do you see?

I see growth. Growth of my business, growth as a person, financial growth and more important spiritual  growth.

What is your favourite pastime?

Spending time with my family and friends.

What is your favourite meal?

I generally am not a picky eater, but when it comes to food, nothing makes  me more excited than cheesecake.

On Saturday nights, where are you likely to be?

My Saturday  nights are usually occupied with spending time with family and friends.

What upsets you the most?

Child abuse and domestic  violence  upset me the most.

What is your guiding philosophy?

Matthew Chaper 19 verse 26 – with God all things are possible. Failure is only a learning experience, so don’t give up.

If you had the chance to manage Barbados for a day, what would you do?

One day is not enough time to find alternatives to reduce fiscal debt, revise, change and implement laws and programmes, but I would use the day to actually get to know the needs of the people so that we could better effect change.
