MOTORISTS DRIVING THROUGH The City can now breathe a sigh of relief.
The controversial strips which were placed at the northern end of the Chamberlain Bridge have been removed and a pedestrian corridor built alongside the Wickham/Lewis Boardwalk to allow for the free flow of pedestrian traffic.
According to a public service announcement (PSA) issued on behalf of the Barbados Port Inc., pedestrian traffic will now be diverted to a temporary walkway leading to the existing traffic lights on Wharf Road which have been reinstated from today.
The PSA further advised the public that the pedestrian walkway is intended to handle two directions of traffic; West to the traffic lights and East to the Chamberlain Bridge. Pedestrians are asked to proceed in an orderly fashion and follow the directional signs to avoid bottlenecks at the traffic lights.
As a result , the crossing at the temporary location between the Chamberlain Bridge and Heroes Square has been discontinued. Motorists have been asked to pay special attention to all signs and proceed with caution, and are further advised that the speed limit on that road would be strictly enforced. (RA)
