DESPITE SUGGESTIONS otherwise, the Caribbean remains one of the safest places in the world for tourists.
That was the contention of secretary general of the Caribbean Tourism Organisation (CTO), Hugh Riley, as he responded to questions yesterday during the Barbados-headquartered organisation’s state of the industry press conference at Baobab Tower, Warrens, St Michael.
“Security is always an issue that we pay attention to. We are not experts on crime and security but what we have is a responsibility to deal with anything that threatens the livelihoods of people in the Caribbean.
“What we are hearing from the source markets is that the Caribbean is still a safe place to visit. There is no crime-free place on the planet. There are always going to be efforts to secure our borders . . . and to protect our visitors every day,” Riley said. (GE)
