FOOD VENDORS PLANNING to operate their businesses at Crop Over events are reminded that they must have a valid permit to operate a temporary restaurant.
The deadline to apply for events taking place during the July 29 to August 2 weekend is Friday, July 15. Officials at the Environmental Health Department explained: “This allows for inspection of the applicant’s premises to ensure that conditions are conducive to the preparation of food that is wholesome for human consumption.”
Applications must be made at the Environmental Health Department closest to where the event is being staged.
All food handlers must also be in possession of a valid medical certificate from a registered medical practitioner. To be valid, the certificate must be issued in 2016 and will expire on December 31.
Meanwhile, the Environmental Health Department will be hosting a series of health education seminars focusing on food safety for vendors and food handlers who will be operating at this year’s Crop Over events.
The sessions will run from July 18 to 21 and will take place at the Branford Taitt Polyclinic, Black Rock Main Road, St Michael from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. each day.
There are two seminars for established vendors. The first is on the opening day, Monday, July 18 and the second on Thursday, July 21.
All new vendors must attend the seminar on Tuesday, July 19. The seminar planned for Wednesday, July 20 is targeted at vendors who operate along Black Rock Main Road, Eagle Hall and Bank Hall Cross Road during Crop Over events.
Operators of food stalls who will be attending the seminars are reminded to bring with them all food handlers who will be working at these events. (BGIS)
