WITH HER MOUTH wide open and a look of awe on her face, Nola Cummings-Lewis was regaled by her former Grazettes Primary School students at a surprise All-Class School Reunion on Saturday evening.
Cummings-Lewis taught at Grazettes for 38 years before moving to Hindsbury Primary where she has served as principal since 2010.
As the song Simply The Best played over the speakers, she walked in under an arch made by her former students.
She paused briefly when she recognised some of the faces gathered at the Christ The King Anglican Church Hall, Rock Dundo Park, St Michael.
Dubbed the “best teacher ever”, Cummings-Lewis’ students recalled the many lashes they received, but also the words of advice, encouragement and lessons learnt, which they fully appreciated now they are adults.
Tracia Douglas, who conceptualised the event, said she had to do something to honour the teacher while she could still enjoy the experience.
Cummings-Lewis, 64, who will be retiring soon, said she was overwhelmed by the tributes and that she had always wanted to be a teacher. (LK)
