IT WILL NOT BE ANOTHER long, drawn out process for the National Conservation Commission (NCC) workers to get their compensation.
This was the declaration by general secretary of the Barbados Workers’ Union (BWU), Toni Moore, who was reacting to a stipulation, by Employment Rights Tribunal chairman Hal Gollop QC, that the BWU, the National Union of Public Workers and the NCC get back to the table to hammer out a schedule for the payment of compensation ordered by the Tribunal.
“One hand can’t clap. From our view, we would like it (the meeting) tomorrow morning (today) but, of course, that is pending agreement by the NCC when we can meet. But we will not be subscribing to any protracted periods of time before those discussions can commence. We need to bring closure to this matter as soon as possible,” Moore said.
The BWU general secretary also said the union would be raising the issue of pensions for those who were terminated two years’ shy of their pensionable years at that meeting. (HLE)
