BARBADOS has seen an increase in the number of drug-related cases this year.
Acting Assistant Commissioner Erwin Boyce revealed that from January to May this year the island had seen an 80 per cent increase in drug-related cases.
He said that increase represents a jump from 395 cases during the same time in 2015, to 711 this year, with a total of 2013.5 kilogrammes of cannabis confiscated this year in interceptions.
Boyce was delivering the feature address at the closing ceremony of the Drug Abuse and Resistance Education (DARE) programme at the Regional Police Training Centre.
“What I’ve seen from January to May is that there’s an 80 per cent rise in drug cases and those are cases that are generated by the police,” the Acting Assistant Commissioner said. (AD)
