PROBATION, COUNSELLING, TIME SERVED on remand and community service for the man who killed their relative in a case of dangerous driving did not satisfy the family of Carlene Stewart.
The latest case of dissatisfaction with a court sentence comes as Jamaican Voltan Samuda, 35, was sentenced on Thursday to 120 hours community service, had his licence suspended for 12 months, was ordered to undergo counselling for drugs and handed over to immigration officials after living here illegally for nine years.
Samuda was originally charged with causing the death of Ministry of Transport and Works worker Carlene Stewart by dangerous driving but pleaded guilty to the lesser count of dangerous driving.
Stewart’s daughter, Debra Corbin-Mayers, and sister Erma Corbin believe this was a slap on the wrist.
