TTHE DELICIOUS AROMA of meat being roasted Argentine-style filled the air when Argentina’s ambassador Diego de Limeres and his wife Maxileny threw open the doors of their official residence to fellow diplomats and other guests for Argentina’s independence anniversary celebrations last week.

Ambassadors, high commissioners, honorary consuls and local Ministry of Foreign Affairs officials savoured the ambiance of the evening.

While the ambassador engaged in the formalities, speaking about the excellent diplomatic ties between his country and Barbados, and Minister of Tourism Richard Sealy (then acting as Prime Minister) responded, a locally based Argentinian parilleros (griller) was busy tending the pork, beef and lamb splayed over a metal frame and roasting alongside a fire pit.

The ambassador said the evening was intended to give his guests a real taste of Argentina, and he did, complete with some of that country’s finest wines.
