OVER ELEVEN THOUSAND party animals did “de dawg” yesterday as Farley Hill was ablaze for the annual Flow Soca on the Hill event.
From mid-morning people started to flock to the St Peter location for what was one of the major activities on this year’s Crop Over Festival calendar.
The support for the event was evident by the lines outside the gates by midday. Some patrons braved the broiling sun as they had an extended wait to get in.
However, many came well prepared with folding chairs and coolers.
And the performers did not disappoint the soca lovers. It was hit after hit after hit, whether it was the big name performers or those who would normally be referred to as the supporting acts.
Some folks came well after the event started and as a result they missed out on performances from Don Trent, Faith Callender and Shanta Prince.
During the show it appeared as if there was a bit of confusion as DJs Tami and John Doe played well beyond their time – as if they were killing time. But, nonetheless their session was entertaining.
By the reactions of the dancing crowds the party did not quite start until Red Plastic Bag (left) appeared onstage and had a whirlwind of a time performing songs such as Rollercoaster, I Love It and Spontaneous.
The show attracted performers from across the region and this seem to have been well accepted by the crowd which came prepared with the flags of the various countries. The event gave Crop Over a true Caribbean feel.
Fans seem to have had a special reception for artistes from the region such as Patrice Roberts, Tennyson John and Skinny Fabulous, who were all very warmly received.
The event also gave the ladies an opportunity to sport the latest fashions while selfies were the order of the day as people simply enjoyed themselves. (TSG)
