Puff of Colour(ful) time

SOME PEOPLE eagerly paid double the original ticket price to be doused with paint, water and powder and I could see why they believed it was money well spent.

Last Sunday morning, an estimated 5 000 party animals descended into the Searles Plantation quarry in Christ Church for one big soca Jā€™Ouvert rave.

Having never attended the event, which is now in its seventh year, I was admittedly a bit apprehensive to do so, especially for security reasons. However, those fears were dispelled after going through two security checkpoints on arrival and realising there was more than one exit. Furthermore, the sweet sounds of the live tuk band that remained at the entrance to greet attendees instantly got the good vibes going.

There were adequate food and drinks stalls, unlimited amounts of powder and paint and a zipline area at the rear for the overly adventurous to enjoy.

A downpour earlier in the night and the intermittent showers throughout the event seemed to make the high energy-party even more enjoyable.Ā

The theme of the Chelsea Boyzz-organised event was to wear white and to party all your stress away and for just over nine hours patrons heeded to that request.

The incident-free event had a DJ line-up that included Infamous HD; Scott Le Roc & Mali Fresh, Salt and Don, and DJ Puffy among others.Ā

One highlight of the night came when DJ Puffy started his session and spoke out against the recent shootings of two black men in the United States by police. Puffy then asked the crowd to raise their hands in celebration for life as he played Give Praise by David Rudder.Ā Ā Ā

Just before sunrise, King Bubba FM took to the stage to do Calling In Sick and When Ah Touch Down. The inaugural Bashment Soca competition winner, Stiffy Star Quality performed at daybreak and gave the remaining partygoers a taste of his many hits, including his winning 2016 tune Tek Off Something.Ā

When it was all over, the once white clothing was now tie-dyed and the buzz of those trickling out of the venue was, believe it or not, ā€œPuff Of Colour 2017ā€.
