THE LAWYER for the largest public sector trade union, the National Union of Public Workers (NUPW), is perusing the recent Employment Rights Tribunal decision as the union looks to meet with its former NCC workers this week.
But, said NUPW President, Akanni McDowall, the overall sentiment expressed by the severed National Conservation Commission workers was that they wanted back their jobs.
McDowall was speaking to the SUNDAY SUN a little over a week after tribunal chairman, Hal Gollop QC ruled in favour of the former NCC workers. But instead of ordering their reinstatement or re-engagement, he awarded compensation.
The NUPW president said the matter was now in the hands of the union’s attorney, Queen’s Counsel Patterson Cheltenham, who would go through the ruling to see what other options were available to the workers who were being called to a meeting at NUPW headquarters.
