MANAGING DIRECTOR of the Sandy Crest and Coverley Medical Centres Dr Brian Charles is concerned that Barbadians do not know their risk profiles for heart disease.

Speaking at a press conference Charles said that given the recent attention being given to sudden public deaths, it had become imperative for Barbadians to be educated about the risk factors for heart disease, which can lead to sudden cardiac death.

To this end, his company donated  $10 000 in CPR training equipment to a number of organisations including the Queen Elizabeth Hospital, the Barbados Red Cross, Barbados Heart & Stroke Foundation and the St John’s Ambulance Association of Barbados.

Charles also said in order to reduce the incidence of sudden cardiac death, Barbadians needed to be trained to perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation. (CM)
