‘Biased’ Axe

POLITICAL CONSIDERATIONS were involved in the retrenchment exercise at the National Conservation Commission (NCC) two years ago, contends veteran trade unionist Senator Sir Roy Trotman.

The retired Barbados Workers’ Union (BWU) general secretary said this flawed the process.

He further charged that though the Employment Rights Tribunal’s (ERT) finding of unfair dismissal was sound, the level of compensation, the fact that no interest penalties were imposed and a definitive timeline for payment imposed diminished the whole affair.

Sir Roy, who was leading the BWU at the time, said when the union’s claim was submitted to the ERT against the NCC, he did not have the factual evidence to support accusations of political considerations. (SP)
