Sada Williams pulled from Rio team

SADA WILLIAMS’ road to Rio has been cut short.

Barbados’ promising young sprinter has been ruled out of the upcoming Summer Olympics in Rio after being diagnosed with a Grade 1 right mid-substance strain of the right hamstring.

Dr Llewellyn Harper, who diagnosed her injury, recommended Williams doesn’t travel as she is unlikely to recover in time. Chief medical officer of Barbados’ delegation Dr Rene Best supported Harper’s recommendation.

Williams appeared to have picked up the injury during last Saturday’s 200 metres final of the IAAF World Under 20 Athletics Championships in Poland, where the teenaged sprint sensation pulled up hurt in the middle of the curve. (JM)
