Extra day ‘a blessing’

VENDORS PREPARING for the upcoming Crop Over festivities are singing the praises of the extra day for Bridgetown Market.

This year, August 2 will be a bank holiday as both Grand Kadooment and Emancipation Day falls on August 1 and thus the vendors will be able to set up a day longer.

Patterson Rowe is the owner of Foodies. He said the extra day was a godsend.

“I like it because, for the amount of time left for Crop Over and with all the activities planned, to have only a few days for Bridgetown Market would be unfair. In fact, I would like it if it could go on for a full week,” he said.

Rowe said people often liked to eat and lime after a fete and Bridgetown Market could become a go-to place for such. However, he acknowledged such an occurrence would require increased security, adding there would also be a need to reduce the per day stall rates. (CA)
