THE BARBADOS Cricket Association (BCA) is extending an olive branch to hundreds of members who are not in good financial standing by writing off a significant portion of their debt.
Against the background that more than 500 members are not up to date with their annual $200 subscriptions and some owe the association more than $2 000, the BCA has taken a decision to extend a reinstatement offer to ‘lapsed’ members through a payment of $300 to be effected by the end of September.
In explaining the thinking behind the move, chairman of the BCA’s member services committee Timothy Boyce said it was aimed at reinvigorating the interest of members.
“I recognise that the BCA is dying. It is not dying from a heart attack. It is from a lack of activity of the membership. If you know the BCA before 2007, the membership got more when it was the old BCA. There was a lot of camaraderie in the old Kensington Stand.”
