When I say I can’t wait, I mean I can’t wait for THEM to have fun cause I won’t be going anywhere. I love de festival don’t get me wrong but some events does just have too many people. My friends does try to get me out and it don’t always work.
Fuh those of you who follow this column you would remember the last time I went to a party it turned out to be a day care centre with nuff teeny boppers.
I can’t really justify paying some of the exorbitant prices that bout de place. One fete I hear is $280. So I suh to my friend, ‘friend yuh getting food and drinks?’, my friend say yes. So I said ‘friend it is food like skrimp, sushi and stake and ting?’ de friend tell me “yea, yuh does get samples of everything”.
Wait man stop de press, samples? Fuh $280 I getting samples? No please fuh $280 I better be getting a plate of food and a doggy bag that got in food fuh two more days. No man not in 2016 when everybody saying things so tight.
Now if I take that same TWO HUNDRED AND EIGHTY DOLLARS, just spelling it out for you so you understand how much it is, and create my own party somewhere else, I would have money left back. Check: drinks would come from somebody rum shop or de gas station beers, cause I ain’t much of a drinker, and that could be a nice $50 spent on drinks.
Food now simple, another $50 and you could buy for urself and still get back change or if it is a group of people a pizza never fail nuhbody yet. Next is to find a location and that will come up to $Free.99 and then finally the music.
All that is required is to go on youtube, download a soca mix, walk with it on your phone which will then connect to a bluetooth speaker and yuh set! All of that now come up to $100. If you doubt me ask me.
In all honesty I wouldn’t be able to create the ambiance of the fete. But I still think promoters could do better than $280. We Ting EmanciPAINT was a whole Jouvert wid performers, breakfast, drinks, powder and paint and it wasn’t even close to that amount.
