Call to fire BIDC board

Attorney at law Gregory Nicholls is calling for the entire board of the Barbados Investment and Development Corporation (BIDC) to be fired for its refusal to pay seven compulsorily retired workers their gratuity and pension.

And if the workers aren’t given their due, another lawsuit could be on the cards.

The seven workers challenged their forced retirement in the High Court last year and are awaiting a decision by Justice Jacqueline Cornelius in their civil case against the statutory corporation. The case was completed in February, and a decision should be handed down soon.

Nicholls believes that through the withholding of their gratuity and pension payments, the former workers are being punished for taking their case to court in the first place.
