Queen Aziza is crowned

Share post:

AZIZA CLARKE has gone where only one other woman has gone before.

She was crowned Calypso Monarch of Barbados early this morning at Kensington Oval, the first since Rita in 1988.

She scored 114 points in the MQI/Mount Gay Pic-O-De- Crop Finals to beat two-time monarch Ian Webster into second with 98.

MRBLOOD came third with 88 points, while Chrystal and Donella were joint fourth with 84 points.

The decision was well received by the faithfuls who braved rain to hear the official announcement. A loud cheer went up across the venue and those on the ground waved their umbrellas in celebration. (YB)
