BARBADOS’ hopes of contesting the 50-over title in the West Indies’ Under-19 championship were dashed yesterday with a heavy 85-run loss to Guyana at the Arnos Vale playing field in St Vincent.

Starting the final round on 17 points and desperately needing a victory to overtake Guyana, who went into the match on 17.8 points, Barbados gave a dismal batting display and were routed for a meagre 98 in 37.5 overs in pursuit of their opponents’ total of 183.

Opener Shian Brathwaite top-scored for Barbados with 35, which included four fours and a six off 89 balls.

Shamar Springer (19) and Leniko Boucher (10) were the only other double-digit contributors for Barbados as they were undermined by Marlon Hubbard, who took four for 11 in 4.5 overs. (EZS)
