That was the ruling of Coroner Manila Renee yesterday as she adjourned the inquest into the death of 12-year-old Shemar Weekes that occurred on May 14, 2015. Weekes was found hanging in a shed in the yard of the Checker Hall, St Lucy home he shared with his mother Julieann and younger brother Shaquan that fateful night.

In her near three-hour ruling, the coroner noted what she called the “discrepancies”, “inconsistences” and “variances” within the statements particularly from Shawn Greaves – Shemar’s former stepfather, Shaquan’s father and the mother’s boyfriend – including the time the events unfolded.

Julieann, Greaves and director of the Child Care Board Joan Crawford attended the sitting, during which Renee recounted the evidence taken from the various witnesses before ruling. (Green Bananas Media)
