‘Upgrade’ the SJPP

IF PRINCIPAL Hector Belle has his way, the Samuel Jackman Prescod Polytechnic (SJPP) would get a name change.

Belle made the call yesterday for the 47-year-old SJPP to be called the Samuel Jackman Prescod Technical and Vocational College as he welcomed the Commemorative Broken Trident to the Wildey, St Michael institution.

Along with the proposed renaming, he suggested a change in the training institute’s certification level to respond to the changing educational climate in the country.

“The SJPP has always been noted for its dynamism in the development of curriculum in response to the needs of industry,” Belle said to the gathering which included Minister of Education Ronald Jones. (AD)
