THERE IS NOTHING in the economy which should cause a spiral in food prices, said Senator Jepter Ince.
As such, he is warning the private sector he does not expect any price gouging in light of the new national social responsibility levy, especially as he said there had not been a reduction in prices when energy costs went down.
“When energy prices were up, we had a private sector in this country that said this resulted in higher food prices. We have seen a significant decline in energy and we also seen a significant decline in commodity prices but have you seen a decline in food prices?” he asked the crowd gathered for the weekly Democratic Labour Party lunchtime lecture in George Street, Belleville, St Michael on Friday.
Indicating this had not been the case, Ince then queried why there should be any food price increase now. (CA)
