THE ANNUAL REPORTS OF the Barbados Vocational Training Board (BVTB) was the main issue discussed when the unfair dismissal case brought to the Employment Rights’ Tribunal by Jasmine Valerie Payne continued yesterday.

Payne’s counsel, Tricia Watson, grilled BVTB director Henderson Thompson about Payne’s responsibility in the preparation of the board’s annual report. Payne was allegedly fired for not completing the annual reports she was tasked to prepare.

Citing the Occupational Training Act, which outlined the contents of the annual report, Watson sought to establish whether her client was responsible for producing the activities section of the report only, or whether she was responsible for the financial aspect as well.

If it were in fact the latter, Watson put it to Thompson that he “knew it to be false” when he recommended Payne’s dismissal for failure to report, when he knew the financials were not ready. (YB)
