The Barbados Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BCCI) is bent on coming up with a national contingency plan that could save local businesses millions of dollars should there be another national power outage like the one that crippled business for almost half of the day last Thursday.
President of the BCCI, Eddy Abed, praised the Barbados Light & Power Company (BL&P) for keeping members of the country’s retail sector fully informed during Thursday’s island-wide outage, which he said allowed businesses to save man hours and money, by allowing employees to come in only when they would be able to work.
Abed was unable to quantify exactly how much money or man hours were lost on Thursday, but said it could have been much worse had the outage been a prolonged one.
