POLICE HAVE ARRESTED and charged a prison officer with a number of offences stipulated in the Prisons Act.

He is Shawn McDonald Herbert, 41, of Olivies Gap, Tudor Bridge, St Michael.

He is expected to appear in the District “C” Magistrates Court tomorrow charged that without lawful authority he gave a number of letters and photographs to a prisoner; suffered a number of letters and photographs out of Her Majesty’s Prison Dodds and attempted to convey a number of letters and photographs to a prisoner.

These offences were allegedly committed sometime between June 17 and September 14, 2016.

Police say prison authorities conducted a search of the cell of a prisoner based on information received and discovered a number of unauthorised letters and photographs.

Further investigation and a subsequent search of Herbert allegedly revealed unauthorised letters and photographs in his possession.

The Police were informed and Herbert was arrested and later charged for the offences. (PR/NB)
