Polygraphs in demand

INTERGRITY TESTING has become a feature at several customs and immigration departments in the region.

Director Operations & Plans at the Regional Security System (RSS), Lieutenant Colonel Glyne Grannum, could not confirm whether local agencies were among them, but said customs and immigration services in the seven territories where they had a presence had been engaging the RSS to conduct polygraph testing.

“  . . . Temptation does not know a uniform nor a service, it doesn’t know day or night, so for their own institutional longevity they need a mechanism like the polygraph test to ensure that their people are trustworthy and indeed that people seeking to get into their organisation have had a solid background,” he told the SATURDAY SUN.

Noting that the agencies have come to recognise the inter-dependence of all the agencies which provide border protection, Grannum said polygraph testing formed part of other mechanisms for vetting and screening potential applicants. (YB)
