THE 2016 Rio Olympics has come to an end, but the support for Akela Jones still goes on.

She was the buzz of the town yesterday as scores of fans flocked to Cave Shepherd on Broad Street to purchase an Akela Jones special edition tee, or simply catch a photo op with the athletic star.

Though she didn’t reach the medal podium with the achievement of being the first Barbadian woman to capture an Olympic medal, she did the nation proud by placing 20th in the women’s heptathlon.

Jones surpassed her personal best in the javelin, throwing 42 metres, and was in sixth place before the final event, the 800 metres. (RB)
