BETWEEN THEM they share a career that spans six decades at the Wanderers Cricket Club.
Stalwarts Richard “Prof” Edwards and Stephen Farmer were recognised for their contribution to the sport when the southern and northern ends of the grounds respectively were named in their honour, at the club’s Dayrells Road, Christ Church home ground on Sunday.
According to treasurer Edward Ince, the club has grown from strength to strength, especially under the leadership of the two men from the late 1960s up to present day.
“In the early 70s Wanderers was an all-white club, and ‘Prof’ and Stephen recognised the need for change. We had our first black members join the club in the early 70s. They built a powerful team that went on to win the cup in 1980 and 1982 with both ‘Prof’ and Stephen leading their teams to victory,” he said. (RA)
