Bid to break bounced cheques

A LOCAL ENTREPRENEUR has created a solution to the huge problem of dishonoured cheques in Barbados.

However, time may be against him.

Software developer Evelyn Austin has created Ryteback, an app designed to eliminate “bounced” cheques by utilising a special cheque with an embedded code which could be scanned at the point of sale, but local banks are already making similar moves.

“We would sell the programme to the banks and they would run their own database. We won’t deal directly with account information. The app does not show people’s finances, just whether they have the required finances,” he said. (CA)
